Biography

Born David Charles Freeman, 2nd December 1931 in Leicester to Frederick William and Maud Mabel Freeman (née Simons).

Attended Leicester City Boys Grammar School. Studied Calligraphy and Bookbinding at Leicester School of Art after which he trained as a Teacher.

Taught Art at Wymondham College near Norwich 1954-1962. Head of Art at Preston Grammar (1962-1967).

Advisor for Art and Design for Lindsey 1967. Subsequently he became Inspector for the whole of Lincolnshire, responsible for the Education of Art and Design in the county until his retirement in 1994.

Active in the local planning advisory group and the Friends of Lincoln Museums and Art Gallery where he became Chairman for two years.

Met Inge Thote at a Fencing club in Norwich in 1956 and married in 1959.

David died on Saturday 25th June, 2011 in Hatton Ward, County Hospital Lincoln. He had been unwell for some time. He was buried in Newport Cemetery, Lincoln on Friday 8th July.
